DRP’s Founding Document may see fundamental revisions
Article Tools
Zahiya Zareer, a steering committee member of the DRP’s congress has said that DRP’s founding document may see fundamental revisions during the upcoming forum.
The deadline to send such revisions is 31 January.
According to DRP members, there is need for updating the document. According to the document party leader automatically becomes the party’s presidential candidate. But some members wish to revise the clause saying that party’s presidential candidate would be decided by an extraordinary or in a party primary. But most members favour that the presidential candidates should be elected by a congress. Another reform could also be appointing a party’s chancellor and electing former President and founder of the party, Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom for the post.
The changes would have to be approved by the congress if the document is to be amended. Many delegates will also attend the Congress.
