Amount of drugs smuggled into Maldives has declined – President

Speaking at a rally by the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party, President Nasheed has said that the amount of drugs smuggled into the country had declined by 100% over the past year and that there can be no debate on it. He also said that number of addicts on the streets have declined as well.

Speaking at the rally he also said that the fight against drugs is one of the key 5 pledges of the MDP manifesto and said that the government is on track to achieve its pledges.

President also said that the government will pay MRF 1.2 billion as subsidies to improve the standards of the people in 2010 and said that he expects the money would soon be received by the government.

He also said that he cannot do favours for a certain party or their members, but he will care for the wellbeing of all Maldivians.

Almost all the senior members of the government and MDP MPs spoke at the rally.
