Islamic Ministry to let the Fiqh Academy take a ruling on Translation

adalat3Islamic Ministry has said that it will request the Fiqh Academy to take a ruling on the Dhivehi Translation of the Holy Quran.

Ahmed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Minister of State for Islamic Affairs said that the mistakes recently discovered were major ones because it has the potential to confuse the readers.

He also said that the checking copy by copy would be a gigantic task and that his official and personal position is to destroy all the copies.

Shaheem, however said that the amendment to the translation could only be brought by the President’s Office. He also said that a letter had been sent to President’s Office yesterday, requesting to review the agreement to print the translations and to identify who should be responsible for this. He also said that this problem, he believes has become a national issue now.

He also said that the translation should not be used and Ministry had been issuing instructions not to use the translation for the time being.

He also said that he is happy with the cooperation Ministry is receiving from the President’s Office and President Nasheed but had not been pressuring to any decisions and that the opportunity being provided to Islamic scholars now have never been possible in the past.
