EC fines 9 political parties due to incomplete audit report

Election Commission (EC) has penalized 9 political parties due to incomplete audit report of the year 2008.
In a press statement released yesterday, EC stated that this was done as reports submitted were not in accordance to the political party regulation 2005.
The parties penalized include People’s Party (PP) , Maldivian Social Democratic Party (MSDP), Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Adhalat Party (AP), National Alliance (NA), Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Jumhooree Party (JP). These 7 parties have been fined with Mrf 20,000.
While the Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) and Maldivian National Congress (MNC) was fined with Mrf 30,000.
EC had given a duration of 30 days for these nine parties to pay the fine.
Prior to this, EC had penalized 3 more political parties besides the ones mentioned above. EC revealed that from these 3 political parties, only People’s Alliance duly paid the fines.

We need a law to be passed at Majilis. I simply dont like public money to be spend on political parties. Our constitution says nothing abt political parties.
