Friday, December 25th, 2009

anni-300-tttGovernment’s budget for 2010 is not a deception for political opportunities, but a calculated budget to obtain certain goals, President Nasheed has said in his weekly radio address.

“God willing, budget will be implemented during 2010 and certainly because of that economic well-being of the Maldivians will be improved during 2010” President said.

He also said that the development projects are not necessarily sustained only by the government budget, but those projects would take place although they would not be spent by the government budget. Elaborating further, President said that some such projects would be carried by public companies while some others would be carried on long-term finance mechanisms and on other credit facilities.

Speaking further on the budget passed by consensus last night, President said that the budget would only implement as per the remarks made by the MPs during the debate on the budget. He also said that budget is not the only tool to deal with the country’s financial situation, but public and private companies and production are all such tools.

President also said that the logic of the government was to consider all the factors and formulate reasonable budgets which maintain the economic growth rate.

As tomorrow would mark the 5th anniversary of the tsunami, he also highlighted the tsunami recovery. He said that the government is trying its best to provide housing for the victims and the government’s goal is to provide housing for free. He also said that it is not fair to rebuild the houses which actually weren’t destroyed in the tsunami.

President’s radio address after a week’s absence was the 28th radio address. During the last week President was in Copenhagen attending the COP 15.
