Mulaku constituency member of People’s Majlis Abdullah Yamin of People’s Alliance (PA) has been summoned to the police headquarters on Monday due to the finding in audit report of government welfare fund.
Abdullah Yamin was summoned to the police to get his signatures on his statement taken by the police previously. According to the audit report of former Ministry of Higher Education and Social Security, the welfare fund under this ministry was misappropriated several times and directed towards assisting many former Majlis members.
According to the audit report, during 2007, Mrf 818,749 was spent on 44 former Majlis members. This fund was used to pay up and down ticket fares for members to go countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka.
Besides this case, Yamin was also summoned by police due to audit reports findings of corruption in State Trading Organization (STO) when Yamin was chairman of the board. In addition to Yamin, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was also summoned by the police to interrogate him concerning Theemuge audit report. Former Home Minister Ahmed Thasmeen Ali and Head of Police Adam Zahir were also among some of the high profile people from former administration who were interrogated by the police concerning misappropriation of government funds.
