The President appoints members to the Elections Commission

In accordance with Article 167(a) and Article 168(b) of the Constitution, President Mohamed Nasheed has today appointed members to the Elections Commission.
The members appointed to the Elections Commission are as follows:
- Mr Fuad Thawfeeq
- Mr Ibrahim Waheed
- Mr Mohamed Farooq
- Mr Ali Mohamed Maniku
- Mr Ahmed Fayaz Hassan
The members took their oath of office before the Judge of Supreme Court Abdulla Areef. Their Letters of Appointment were presented by the President.
Addressing the members, President Nasheed spoke on the responsibilities of Elections Commission’s members. He also said that the international community had noted that the free and fair elections ever held in the Maldives were last year’s presidential elections and this year’s People’s Majlis election.
