Presidential Commission requested to speed up work

President’s Office has sent a letter to Presidential Commission requesting them to speed up their work. This Commission was created by President Mohamed Nasheed in May of this year to investigate large scale embezzlement and corruption of state funds and resources carried out during the previous administration.
The spokesperson of the Commission Abdullah Haseen said that they have speeded up the Commission’s work owing to the orders from the President’s Office. He said that the main case that they are investigating now is the ‘Thunbufalhu’ case. Haseen said that after concluding the former Fisheries ministry’s audit report, they will move on to the audit reports of MTCC and former environmental ministry. He added that they will still have to conduct investigations on the uninhabited islands listed in the Fisheries ministry audit report.
President Nasheed had spoken about speeding up the commission’s work speaking at the ceremony held to mark one year to the coalition government. President Nasheed had said that even though there were people who were suspected of corruption and misuse of government funds in the former government, he was ready to put it behind him but the opposition got involved in sorcery as a result of this. President Nasheed said that because of this, the work of President’s Commission will go even faster now.
