MCSA express concern over 600 employees impending termination
Article Tools
Maldives Civil Servants Association (MCSA) has expressed concern over government’s decision to dismiss 600 employees from the health sector by the beginning of next year.
Ministry of Health announced earlier this month that after restructuring the posts of public health centers in the atolls, 15 posts will be abolished and with that 600 employees holding these positions across the health centers in the atolls, will also be dismissed.
In a press release issued on Saturday, MCSA stated that they were very concerned about Civil Service Commission’s announcement to further reduce the number of government employees by January 1 of next year. MCSA stated that this was done without proper research. They further demanded to retract the decision to terminate 600 employees from the health sector.
MCSA further noted that this decision to dismiss 600 employees was taken at a time when living expense was very high and that this would affect the families attached to these employees.
The association pointed out that the government has increased a number of political posts within Maldives and abroad and further increased the salary of the old posts. According to MSCA, this was a proof of recovery of the country’s economy.
Maldives Civil Service Association is an independent organization created on 22 February 2009. This association, along with its members staged a protest on 1 November of this year in front of CSC office owing to CSC’s decision to reduce government employee’s salary.
