Maldives to address at FAO annual meeting

Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr Ibrahim Didi is scheduled to address at the World Summit on Food Security organized by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO.)
The Ministry said that Minister Didi will address the meeting held in Rome, Italy on 19 November. The meeting will also be attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Fisheries Ministry Abdullah Naseer.
The FAO annual meeting which began on 16 November is a crucial meeting which comes at a time when the global food insecurity situation has worsened in the last few years. The food prices continue to rise and the economic situation in the world is not helping the situation. There is an impending threat of deepening the poverty level all over the world.
FAO reports that the current food crisis is the result of 20 years of under-investment in agriculture and neglect of the sector.
World leaders of food and agriculture who met at the meeting pledged to eradicate hunger and also agreed to increase investment in the agriculture sector.
