Article Tools
People’s Majlis in yesterday’s session approved two more members for the Election Commission (EC). They were Ali Mohamed Manik and Hassan Fayaz Hassan. President Mohamed Nasheed, this October submitted to the Majlis these two people as nominations for EC membership.
Majlis members debated on it after a report was submitted by the temporary committee of the Majlis appointed for reviewing these nominations. When the debate was over, the motion was put to vote. Ali Mohamed Manik’s name was passed with 51 votes from the 52 who were participated in the vote and Ahmed Fayaz Hassan’s name was passed with members voting in favor of him.
Out of the 5 members that form the Elections Commission, the Majlis so far has approved only 3 members. They are former Commission member Fuadh Thaufeeg, Ogaru Ibrahim and Mohamed Faroog
People’s Majlis earlier rejected some of the presidential nominees for EC. This includes Mohamed Ibrahim, the President of EC, Hussain Shiraj, Vice President and Commission member Hassan Shah.
