Boy held in room rented by kidnappers

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has said that the 18 year old boy who was kidnapped on 16 October 2009 was held in a guesthouse room that was rented by the kidnappers themselves.
MPS said that from the investigations carried out so far, they do not know if there was any connection between the kidnappers and the guesthouse owners and that no other arrests have been made besides the four arrested initially.
The police official who spoke to media said that they are even now trying to find out through the 4 arrested people if there were any more involved in this crime that shocked that nation.
The boy was kidnapped on 16 October evening around 0400 near Ameenee Magu Water Supply. The kidnappers held the boy for a ransom of Mrf 25, 000. In the operation carried out by MPS SWAT team, 4 people were arrested, three of whom are above 18 and one was a 16 year old.
The three men who were arrested were, Ahmed Nadheem, 27, from G. Ufuriya; Mohamed Aiman, 20, from Raa Rasgetheemu and Ibrahim Haleel, 28, of H. Mehelige. The identity of the 16 year old who was arrested was not revealed.
The boy suffered multiple numerous injuries at the hands of his kidnappers; including blood shot eyes due to his specks being smashed into his eyes, cigarette burn marks and also bruises of beating were seen on his back. According to the police, the boy said that he was forced to take illegal drugs by a group of 15 men. They even seized the boy’s wallet, his cash card and after forcing the boy to reveal the security pin code number, they took money from it to buy food.
This is the first time that a kidnap situation occurred in Maldives.
