Our President is doing what he can through the parliament. Most of his promises are held and refuge by the parliament, having majority by DRP & PA coalition. They are blocking every moves by the President. This is not something we the people of Maldives want.Opposition parties have to coorporate with the government. Otherwise the government will not run smoothly as we want.

Anyways. DRP is DRP and PA offcourse is PA. They will never come with the peoples side. They have their own hiden agendas. But surely they will not be able to come to power again. Never. You the supporters of them watch and see.

Hope you all will give him more time and cooperation to build this island nation for a better future…

I think if we can move from personalities to issues we will have a better chance of seeing what we are dealing with. Ahmed you seem to be still focussed on Anni this Anni that…. I don’t blame you, especially if you are not yet 30 years old or even 40 years, you have grown up in a culture of worship- the- ruler mentality. Perhaps you did not live away from Male’ long enough for you to have a shift in your mind set. Or maybe you are just too deep in the shit you speak of so eloquently.

I am not brainwashed by this government, Ahmed. I am wide awake and yes I can smell the roses and the frangipaani as well. I have as much right as you to create what I would like to see for my grandchildren. Yes Ahmed, I like what this government promises for an Anneh Dhivehiraajeh. And I would like to believe this government will deliver on what it has promised. Thus far Anni has delivered and is doing so. I am glad we have a democracy and separation of the three powers. I am glad I am able to write this and not fear punishment. I am glad we have opportunities to do business without begging for favours, to get medical care without begging, to see my father get free medical care and to get his monthly over 65 pension. I am glad we can travel to other islands without going bankrupt, to be allowed the opportunity to start a amall business without any assets to mortgage, to have access to loans to study without pawning our parents land and sell our soul. I could go on.

And yes there will be people in this government too who will through their addictions to greed power and control undermine what this government pledged to do. We can already see some of that happening . It is my hope that President Nasheed will act swiftly and decisively to deal with such people and structures, and ensure rot does not set in. It is also my hope that President Nasheed will set up structures to create safety nets and checks and balances to root out corruption sooner than later and reward those who act with integrity and service. If not then he would have failed in what he set out to do and we will find another leader who can deliver…… in the next election. That Ahmed, is the beauty of democracy.

To understand what convinces the gangsters to do anything for power, including harming the innocent and serving the corrupt elite, one must understand the social conditions which render an individual soulless. Injustice, repression, continual betrayal and emotional starvation caused by overcrowding, greed, the decay of traditional values, these create violent ‘normlessness.’ Nietzchean like ‘amorality’ rules the day. Durkheimian anomie is fused with the 32 years of pain created by the absolute power of a corrupt dictatorship. It has left, in many, emptiness, an endless darkness. Where there once was a soul, there is an eternal vacuum. This unquenchable hunger grows the more it is fed, and it feeds…- on fear – the fear of the people. It is a furious force of lust for domination.

Sure, this new anti-social legislation may lead us to see a few token arrests. ‘Wannabe’ ‘gang-stars’ and a few weak, unintimidating fools might get into trouble for being “intimidating.” The real criminals, the ones who are actually capable of violence, will not fear the police. They will continue to roam the streets all hours of the day and night because in the court room, the corrupt judiciary will prevent them from being prosecuted.

The truly dangerous know that they are above the law. They will not fear the police, until the judiciary and the police force is much less corrupt.

The power to end the violence of gangsterism lies in the people; we must rise up and demand an end to the corrupt judiciary, and the destruction of the elite who control the gangsters.

The ‘dark forces’ are attempting to convince the people that President Nasheed’s Government is worth overthrowing because of ‘ties with Israel,’ ‘extremism,’ and the threat of a reduction in the salary of the civil servants.

If, dear civil servants, you want to ensure that you do not experience a wage reduction, push the old regime to return the billions which it so brutally robbed from the Maldives, from you!
The old regime, through corruption, through luxurious lifestyles, through Theemuge’, have stolen so much wealth from the Maldives that the new President has been rendered incapable of meeting your needs. No-one can meet your needs unless the plundered wealth is returned.

The MDP are trying to get that plundered wealth back, but we must all support them to do so.

Do you think President Nasheed wants wages to be reduced and people to suffer! NO WAY! He is living in Muleeage’ rather than in Theemuge’, refusing certain overseas trips and luxuries, so that there can be support for the disabled and for single mothers. He would, as would most in the MDP, sacrifice everything to make sure you live better off. But we foolishly sometimes do not respect these sacrifices, and look at Anni’s un-Be’fulhu like simplicity as a sign of weakness. In fact, Anni’s beautiful, powerful; no nonsense simplicity is the strength of charity – a sacrifice for YOU! We are cursed if we cannot appreciate it!

I feel that Anni has made a mistake in giving too much power to the Adhaalath. He genuinely, but perhaps wrongly, thought that by hugging Adhaalath, he could restrain their arms from unleashing punches of terror.

On Maldives/Israel relations, how is the Maldives going to convince Israel to give justice to Palestine if the Maldives does not even talk to Israel? Palestine and Maldives are more hurt by not talking to Israel than by talking to them!

So, if you want the darkness, the gangsterism, the threat of poverty and overcrowding to end, rise up against the opposition as a mass, IF THEY ATTEMPT TO TOPPLE THE GOVERNMENT!

In the meantime, push for justice regardless, for a return of that which was stolen from you.

If the old regime takes back power through means other than the electorate, they will have revealed to the world that they are not democratic, or liberal. They will not be restrained in their lust for power, wealth and violence by a need to appear democratic or liberal, the mask will be well and truly gone forever, and the full hideousness of their unveiled terror shall be unleashed like a roaring Tsunami of fire! I personally suppported Anni and voted for him. You tell me how many promises had he made to us and forgot about it. The recession didint come yesterday. it started on 2006. As the leader of a party when he campaigned he would know the reality, would have done the research. DOnt tell me maumoon had hid it for him. Every year has the finacial report and all the details for the finances of country are released as budget reports. Why cant Anni ask one of his then MPS to check it out for him, if someone tried to hide it. if maumoon had hid the gov budget then why did MDP not protest.

Then why did he made all these promises while he cant stand it to the people. why did he shouted at maumoon saying too many politicians. see today, who has more politicians. Please go to maldives info site and do the MATH. Even check how many failed to be MDP MPS of this year were given so many higher post while civil service is being forced to go home and for paycuts.
