Tourist arrival for Sept exceeds Ministries estimation

tour-300The tourist arrival to Maldives for the month of September of 2009 exceeded by 3.9 percent of government’s estimation, revealed a statistical report compiled by the Ministry of Tourism.

According to the report till September of this year, a total of 465,839 tourists arrived in Maldives. This is 0.6% less than the number of tourist arrivals in September of last year and 8 percent less the number of tourist arrivals till September of last year.

It further said that even though overall tourist arrivals from Europe to Maldives has decreased, the number of tourists from Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, France, Greece and Hungary has increased and also the number of tourists coming from Asia has increased comparatively.

The ministry has further revealed that deliberations were in progress with concerned government authorities to introduce wedding tourism in Maldives to further boost tourism and economy of the country.
