Speaker addresses IPU assembly

The Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Abdullah Shaahid has yesterday addressed the Governing Council of International Parliamentary Union.
Speaking at IPU he said that the new constitution that is being implemented in Maldives was one which has full support and also was written in accordance with democratic principles and international principles. He said that this year’s Majlis, for the first time in the history of Maldives, consists of multi parties and that its work is in progress. He said he was hopeful that in the future the role of women in the Majlis would expand.
This is the 121st general assembly of IPU and the delegation from Maldives participating in this three day meeting include Speaker Abdullah Shahid, Galolhu Uthuru constituency member Eva Abdullah, Kinbidhoo constituency member Moosa Zameer, Guraidhoo constituency member Ibrahim Riza and Deputy General secretary of Majlis Dr Ali Shameem.
