Article Tools
DRP/PA, IDP Opposition Alliance has said that they will very soon initiate a no confidence motion in the parliament against Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Ahmed Shaheedh. This was revealed at a protest held in Artificial Beach last night.
Speaking at the protest, Hussein Shareef (Mundhu), spokesperson of the former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, said that work is underway to prepare a petition for the no confidence motion. Proposed relations with Israel and military ties with India are some of the reasons why the opposition alliance is going for a no confidence motion against Dr. Shaheedh. Shareef also blamed Dr.Shaheeds for all the faults in the present government saying that Dr. Shaheedh is responsible for all that.
Dr. Shaheedh, answering a question Miadhu asked last night, said that he is not worried about the proposed no confidence motion and this new move by DRP is simply going attract disgrace from the world to themselves. Dr. Shaheedh said that if such a motion is taken, then he is sure to win it. He also said that DRP has come up with 1000 reasons for no confidence motion against him and one of those reasons would be his role in bringing an end to the dictatorial regime lead by former President Maumoon.
“Our relation with Israel today is based on how Maumoon voted on Israel issue at UN on 16 December 1991. It is also based on Mamoon’s decision in 1994 to establish relations with Israel. This government has not yet established official relations with Israel. We have not agreed to accept Israeli ambassador as of yet.”
Foreign Minister further went on to say, “One other reason why they would want to undertake a no confidence motions against me is that President Nasheed has achieved something Maumoon had not achieved in 30 years. That is to chair UN general assembly. President Nasheed is sailing towards the list world heroes. When President Nasheed’s 5 year term is over, he will be among the most influential personalities of the world.”
