MNDF ready for any situation – Faruhath

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) vice-chief of Defense Force Brigadier General Farhath Shaheer has said that at a time when the world was facing increasing problems from terrorism and other threats, MNDF was ready to tackle any situation that Maldives will be confronted with.
Briefing the media on MNDF work, Brigadier General Farhath said that terror activities were undertaken very close to Maldives. He said to further build the military to face such situation; MNDF was carrying out a lot of work, such as joint training programs were held between India and Maldives military to expose Maldives military to face dangerous situations. In addition to this, joint training programs were under way even now between USA and Maldives military in Laamu Kadhoo.
Speaking at the press conference, Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor noted the recent piracy attack on a Chinese cargo boat in the Indian Ocean. He said that it was crucial that aerial surveillance should be established very soon to maintain security in Maldives territories. He also pointed out that the recently seized illegal Iranian fishing boats were captured because of aerial surveillance.
MNDF officials further said that even though Maldivian military were not capable of thwarting on their own the 3rd November 1988 coup attempt, if such an attempt occurs now in any island of the country, they will be able to confront it on their own.
