VB wins Wataniyya Dhivehi League

VB Sports has clinched the prestigious Wataniyya Dhivehi League by beating New Radiant Sports Club by 2-1 on Friday night.
This is first time VB became championships of biggest league in Maldives, the Dhivehi League.
In the match on Friday night at Galholu National Stadium, VB took the lead. The first goal of the match was scored by Haneef (Banjo). The second goal for VB was scored expatriate forward Abu. The only goal scored by New Radiant was converted through a penalty shot by Akram Abdul Ganee.
New’s players received several chances to even the score, however, was unable to go past VB’s tough defense line.
Clashes occurred between the players of both team, requiring involvement of the officials. However, tensions soon subsided and play soon resumed.
After the match VB Coach Lazlo Kiss said he was delighted with his team’s performance especially as the team beat the Maldives top three teams, Victory, Valencia and New Radiant to win the championship.
New’s Coach Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan) said his team was unable to show a good performance in the first half. However, he said his team showed a much better performance in the second half. He said the biggest problem he faced was the fact that that two of his best players, Shamweel Gasim (Bonda) and Mohamed Arif (Baka) were on injury.
With the VB’s victory, the chance to play in the next year’s AFC championships is now confirmed. The second team to play in the oncoming AFC championship will be the FA Cup champions.
