Sri Lankan National Team to play in Maldives – FAM

sp400Sri Lankan National Football Team is to arrive in Maldives, according to Football Association of Maldives (FAM).

Speaking at a Press Conference held at FAM House, FAM’s President Ali Azim said the Sri Lankan National Team is visiting Maldives to play 2 friendly matches.

According to FAM President, the Sri Lankan national football team will be in Maldives from 10-16 of October. Azim said out of the 2 friendly matches, the Sri Lankan team will meet the Maldives National Football Team and the second match will played with Maldives under 23 years national team preparing for SAAF games.

He also revealed that Maldives senior national football team will hold a football training camp in a friendly Arab country as the SAAF championships draws closer. He also said Maldives would probably hold camp at Bahrain, although this has not been confirmed.

At the yesterday’s press conference Azim also revealed that funding to be provided to clubs competing in the second round of Dhivehi League has not been provided because the main sponsors Wataniyaa and audio rights holder Voice of Maldives (VOM) has not forwarded the money to FAM.

Azim said audio rights holder VOM has not paid up its dues and that 2 reminders has been sent. The main sponsor Wataniyaa has provided a portion of the money and Dhi TV, the video rights holder is making regular payments.

He also noted that FAM was facing difficulties. He revealed the Rf. 3 million debts, FAM had, when he assumed the presidency has now been reduced to Rf. 1.3 million.

Azim also revealed that a football tournament for players under 35 years of age will commence on the 8 th of this month. He also said Police and MNDF have been invited to take part in the tournament.
