Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Investigations prove that the false story that the incumbent government wants to abolish the Center for Holy Quran and empty the premises by end of this month was spread by the Permanent Secretary (PS) of Islamic affairs ministry Mohamed Didi, state minister for Islamic affairs Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said.

In an exclusive interview given to Miadhu Daily, state minister Shaheem said following receipt of a letter from President’s Office, asking to clear the premises of the Center for Holy Quran to initiate work on construction of the new 10 storey building for the Center, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary twisted the objective of the letter and spread a story for political reasons.

“We have to consider the reasons and intentions for such actions, so on my instructions an investigation was carried out” he said.

Sheikh Shaheem further said he believes that Mohamed Didi spread the false story because of his close family affiliations with PA’s deputy leader Ahmed Nazim.

“I have decided to report the matter to Civil Service Commission along with all pertinent statements tomorrow (Today) “the state minister said.

Islamic ministry’s Permanent Secretary Mohamed Didi has said that he spread the story because a letter was sent by President’s Office without providing any details.

The false story instigated by Mohamed Didi about an imminent closure of the Center for Holy Quran, a center which of a significant interest to thousands of students, resulted in opposition parties DRP and IDP staging protests calling on for the resignation of President Nasheed , Islamic Affairs minister Dr. Abdul Majeed Bari and state minister Shaheem.
