MDP was not working to bring democracy – DRP
Article Tools
Dr. Mohamed Mausoom, Secretary-General of DRP has said that the current government does not feature any qualities that should be possessed by people who had worked for democracy. He also insisted that MDP was not working to bring democracy, but rather to topple down the government of former president Maumooon.
Dr. Mausoom who had worked for the Maumoon’s administration and MP for Kelaa said that MDP’s claim for bringing democracy is baseless and that should be borne in mind by the Maldivian people.
“They did not work to bring democracy. They wanted to topple down the former government and they were successful in that. Now they are working hard to reintroduce dictatorship to the country” Mausoom said.
He also said that “government is working hard to discredit the independent commissions. Names proposed by the government for such commissions are a testimony to that. Some names proposed by the government are activists of a particular political party. How can they work for independent commissions?” he asked.
He also accused the government of limiting the freedom of expression and said that the state of the media in the country is grave while the print journalism is on the verge of bankruptcy.
“Now TVM does not bring independent news and opinions. Dailies are on the verge of bankruptcy. It’s like giving freedom of expression and saying that they can only do that at home. Is this the freedom? In democracy there is obeying the democracy but what we are seeing is using force without any respect for the views of the majority” said Mausoom.
He also said that government is eliminating the work done by the Maldivians to bring democracy to the country and MDP should be ashamed to say that they brought democracy to the country.

are you trying to bring democaracy?. or are trying to prevent the government from implementing its policies. have a few queries to you. How much did Gayoom give you. I know Gasim has given you a PHD. I am sure you do not have the quality of an educated man.
I am sure i will not attend the University who gave you the PHD.
from what i heard from the former president, the election commissionaire he proposed and elected is biased. the anticorruption commissionaire and auditor general cannot be trusted. and still it is mdp that is trying to discredit independant commissions. explain this to me dr.
To THTHTu MANIK, I would say can u? (attend that university even if you wanted to) Universities are open to people who are able to tolerate opposition views and not take things personally..
“Now they are working hard to reintroduce dictatorship to the country”
Reintorduce dictatorship? interesting! So Dr.Mausoom agrees that he was a minister under a dictator. right?
Yes, Dr Mausoom, what happened for the DRP to change its mind about the Auditor general, the Chairman of the Elections commission that your Zaeem appointed? Could it have anything to do with damning audit reports of the previous government practices and free and fair elections?
I am deeply shocked that a man who professes to have a Ph.D and claim he is an educated man can lose his soul to this extent. What is this man’s Ph. D worth?
Where is your integrity , Dr Mausoom, how can you speak such untruths if you have belief in Allah.
This is certainly the day of the Jaahilliyya. People blind deaf and crippled by personal greed.
This is our Jihaadh, my friends. Our battle for our dignity, for whats right, and what is fair, and to speak and to live our truth, is right here on our soil.
