The important work of drafting bill called for by the new constitution, for submission to the People’s Majlis is progressing as per schedule, Attorney General Husnu Suood has said.
Briefing the media, at Fansavees Maalum / Dharubaruge on Thursday, the Attorney General said the penal code has been resubmitted to the Majlis and expressed hope that Majlis would start its deliberations on the penal code in its session due to commence next month.
He said the penal code has been submitted without any change. Expressing his satisfaction on the draft, AG said he was offered by advice to submit various chapters of the penal code separately under separate bills to the Majlis. However, he rejected this advice as he believed having the complete penal code as one book would be more convenient.
AG Suood further said a bill on judges and a bill on the right to acquire information would be submitted to the Majlis this month.
Speaking at the news conference Deputy AG Abdulla Muizz said that a professional medical services bill and a bill on the prevention of sexual harassment have been sent to the Majlis. He noted that work a bill on prevention of drug abuse is nearing completion.
