Maldives grouped with Australia, Korea, Lebanon & Qatar

maldives-volly-teamMaldives is to take part in the 15th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship to be held in the Philippines from 26 September – 5 October.

A total of 20 Asian countries will see action in the 10-day tournament. In the preliminaries, the host country Philippines is bracketed in Group A, together with Chinese-Taipeh, Kazahkstan, Myanmar and Pakistan. Japan, Thailand, India, Indonesia and Afghanistan make up Group B; China, Iran, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Vietnam are in Group C. Maldives along with Australia, Korea, Lebanon, Maldives and Qatar compose Group D.

The first match Maldives has to play will be against Korea and in the second match Maldives will face Australia and in the third match Maldives will be playing against Lebanon. In the final match Maldives will play against Philippines.

The top two finishers from each elimination group will advance to the knockout quarterfinals while the rest of the teams will be relegated to the classification round for their final rankings.

Maldives Senior Men’s National Team is now holding practice matches and the squad includes 20 players which would be reduced to 16 players today, Volleyball Association has said.

Maldives National Team coach is Mohamed Sharaf who coached the national team for the world Volleyball Championship qualifying rounds held in Pakistan in January. Trainer is Abdulla Rasheed (Abullo).
