The story of 400 scholarships is not true: Abdulla Yaameen
Article Tools
Government’s claim that it had secured 400 scholarships for Maldivian students is not true and it actually is a part exemption of tuition fees when Maldives sends a certain amount of students, Abdulla Yaameen had said. He also said that the arrangement was actually worked out by the previous government.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily he said that during his tenure as the higher education minister he had signed the MOUs with some Malaysian colleges and that is not a deal done by the current government.
“The story which says we have got 400 scholarships is not true. That is something done two years ago under my tenure as the higher education minister and that is not scholarships. Only when the Maldivian government secures a certain number of students 25% – 30% would be exempted from the tuition fees and students would have to pay for their travel as well” he said. He further said that the key mover at his ministry then was current civil service commission member Khadeeja Adam and that claim that Maldives had got 400 scholarships is not true.
“That is an agreement done by previous government and that is not something done today or yesterday. This is something like India’s grant of US$ 300 million and Chinese government’s 25,000 houses” he said. Mulaku MP and leader of Peoples Alliance also said that spreading such outright lies by the government is distressing and does not represent actions of a responsible government.

so should we believe him, or not!!
i dnt kno abt wah yamin is sayin, but anybody readin ths pls take a look at Limkokwings fee structures. I mean the fees has increased more than 110% from last years fees. And if the goverment is sayin that they provided certain discounts the fees are actually lowered to the ‘actual tuition fees’ i ges. Anyway somebody is playing us, maybe the youth minister coz he can say that he provided 400 schols on his day or its the university.. All i know is government should answer to this….
so wheres the other side of the story?
this is what i dont like about miadhu. i think there always should be both side of the story but in miadhu its just one side always.
According to the information i have gathered GOVT is trying to show that this is the golden opportunity for the Maldivian Students. But the truth is the only discount the Malaysian Colleges offered for the Maldivian Students by taking into account the Quantity.
we would be much happy if the Govt introduce the fund to support the Maldivian Students by financially.
Definition: financial aid provided to a student on the basis of academic merit
so i guess whether they pay the full amount or half or even 25% it dosent matter..
