Male’ Municipality has asked DRP to vacate its main office located at Sinamale’ 1 building as the premises is required by Male’ Municipality.
Responding to a question posed by Miadhu Daily, at a press conference held at DRP main office on Wednesday night, the party’s Chief Spokesperson Mohamed Saleem ( Huvarufushi Saleem) said despite the Municipality’s instructions to vacate, a letter has been sent indicating the party’s intentions.
“Male’ Municipality has advised that they need DRP’s Office , DRP at the end of the year asked them to renew the contract, and when Municipality asked us to vacate , we have written to them informing them of the party’s thinking on the matter” Saleem said.
President of Male’ Municipality Sarangu Adam Manik speaking to Miadhu Daily from Colombo said DRP’s contract with Municipality expired on 30 June and that rental fees of past three months have not been paid. He also said a notice reminding that the contract was about to expire was sent.
When asked whether the rental fees of the past three months were not paid as claimed by Male’ Municipality President , DRP Secretary General Abdulla Mausoom said that he would have to clarify the matter from the accounts section. He declined to comment on the matter saying that DRP and Municipality were ‘exchanging letters ‘on the subject.
Male’ Municipality President Sarangu Adam Manik further said the office was not leased in the best and proper manner.
“They made a contract when they were in power and took the office, when the lease expires they have to vacate isn’t it? Their agreement expired on 30 June this year, today, we have a responsible government, and our president has asked us to follow democratic good governance, to abide rules and regulations, so I have sent them a letter during June informing them that lease would expire by end of that month, they are occupying 4 places just for Rf.26, 000” Adam Manik said.
Adam Manik further said Municipality wanted DRP’s office to bring in Galholhu Ward Office and the Office of the Sinamale’ Flats there. He said currently, Muncipality was leasing office space for these offices and that this fact has been intimated to DRP as well. He also said despite this, DRP has asked to extend the lease, and that it was not possible.
“DRP always blame others and spread false information, I , personally have sent a letter to let them know that extension of the lease was not possible, that the place belongs to the government and if the lease were to be extended then it would through a bidding process, we have not called for bids as we need the place for our own use” he said.
