Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Following Male’ Municipality’s instructions to vacate office, Dhivehi Rahyithunge Party (DRP) is working on finding a suitable place to establish its new headquarters and as soon such a place is found the party would relocate , DRP Special Envoy Ibrahim Shareef has said. Shareef made the statement speaking at a news conference held yesterday.

Shareef, former MP for Addu Atoll, responding to a question from the media said, “we are working on finding a suitable place to relocate our office, by the will of Almighty, as soon as a suitable place is found, we shall be vacating this place, we are not thinking of staying here, we are here because we no place to go” Shareef said.

He said Municipality did not provide any notice to vacate premises prior to expiry of the current lease agreement and as such it is only proper that adequate time be given for DRP to relocate.

“As this is a government building, and as we are a political party which performs an important work for the people, throwing us out on the road is an injustice against this party by the present government” Shareef said.

He further said rental fees of the past three or two months may have delayed and that was due to economic difficulties but the party has always paid up the rental fees in the past on a timely manner.

He also said he was unaware of Municipality’s intentions in repossessing the office, in an interview given to Miadhu Daily, President of Male’ Municipality Saragu Adam Manik has said Municipality wanted DRP’s office to bring in Galholhu Ward Office and the Office of the Sinamale’ Flats there. He also said currently, Muncipality was renting office space for these offices and that this fact has been intimated to DRP.
