President visits Stockholm Env Institute

President Mohamed Nasheed has, on Wednesday, visited and met with the senior officials the Stockholm Environment Institute of Sweden.

At the meeting, the President spoke on the effects of climate change in the Maldives, and the steps that are being taken by the government to combat the effects of climate change. Further, the President discussed the measures that could be taken to protect the environment in the Maldives.

Separately, President Nasheed met with the Chief Executive Officer and other senior officials of the Sweco Group of Sweden. At the meeting, senior officials of Sweco briefed the President on the main activities of the company.

The company is currently undertaking research project in the Maldives on a waste management system to be established in Bodukaashi Huraa of South Ari Atoll.

The officials of the company also spoke on the progress of the project, and discussed with the President the ways in which a waste management system could be operated effectively in the Maldives.
