President meets his Sri Lankan counterpart

President Mohamed Nasheed, who made a brief stop over in Colombo on his way home from Sweden, has met with his Sri Lanka counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday. The meeting was held at the Sri Lankan President’s house in Anuradhapura.
At the meeting, discussions were focused on the close bilateral ties that exists between Sri Lanka and the Maldives and on areas of mutual concern.
President Nasheed congratulated the government of Sri Lanka for their tremendous success in effecting an end to the decades-old conflict in their country. He also expressed his confidence that Sri Lanka would reach greater heights of development and prosperity during the tenure of President Rajapaksa.
President Rajapaksa expressed pleasure at President Nasheed’s stop over in Colombo.
The two Presidents also discussed on further intensifying bilateral cooperation between the two countries, in various areas including trade, and investments.
President Nasheed also attended a luncheon hosted by the Sri Lankan President.
Separately, President Nasheed met with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, and discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.
