Governor Schwarzenegger hails Maldives’ plan to go carbon neutral

Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, star of the Hollywood block buster movie Terminator, has commended the Maldives’ plan to go carbon neutral, during a meeting held with Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed, in the latter’s ongoing visit to the United States. Governor said that the carbon neutral plan was a very important step taken by the government of Maldives.

After inquiring about the measures that the Maldivian government was taking to tackle climate change, Governor Schwarzenegger assured of providing all possible assistance towards the country’s efforts in addressing and tackling the climate change crisis.

Speaking in this regard, Governor Schwarzenegger said he would extend assistance and cooperation in sharing the experience of the environmental experts of California with their Maldivian counterparts.

He also spoke on the possibility of establishing a partnership between California and the Maldives in the run-up to the Copenhagen summit to be held in December this year.

Vice President Dr Waheed said that the government attached a high priority to the environment, and briefed the Governor on the measures being taken by the government. He also thanked the Governor for his interest in the environmental issues faced by the Maldives.

During the meeting, the Vice President extended an invitation to Governor Schwarzenegger to make a visit to the Maldives, which the Governor was pleased to accept.
