Article Tools
US Ambassador Robert Blake, who is on his farewell visit, has said that ruling party’s failure to secure a parliamentary majority is an additional success for democracy.
Speaking at the American Corner at National Library, Blake said ruling party’s failure to secure a clear parliamentary majority in the May 9 parliamentary elections was a success to democracy, one which would help establish democratic good governance.
Blake said in order to further develop the country, all political parties, must aside their differences and join hands towards the development of the country.
He mentioned that he discussed the topic with all officials he met yesterday and advised on the importance of such collaboration.
He said in the past years the country has made significant developmental strides and that Maldives was a fine example of a fast developing nation in South Asia.
US Ambassador Blake, who has been nominated as Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs, said effects of global economic downturn was comparatively less in Maldives due the country’s fairly stable tourism industry.
