The President’s Office issues a Directive on the government’s information policy

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

The President’s Office has today issued a directive on the government’s information policy.

The information policy was introduced with the objective to strengthen the democratic system; increase transparency; strengthen the governance system; and, to expand the dissemination of information on government policies.

The government’s information policy is to increase the flow on information and to provide in-depth information to the public on the programmes and projects of the government.

The Directive advised Government Ministries and offices to recommence regular press briefings, and to strengthen the role of designated information officers in every Government office, who are assigned the task of liaising with the media.

The government believes that providing news and information to members of the public on issues of governance was an important step in building confidence on the performance of the Government.
