President says that history and heritage are the most important distinctions of a country

President Mohamed Nasheed has said that history and heritage were the most important distinctions of a country. The President made the statement this morning at the function held to mark the completion of the renovation work of ‘Kalhuvakaru mosque’.

Noting that Kalhuvakaru mosque was a cultural relic, the President said that many such mosques were built across the world during the spread of Islamic culture. Speaking further, the President said the skills and workmanship of the Maldivian people, as well as, many historical information could be seen in such historical mosques in the Maldives.

In his speech the President noted the work of the National Centre for Linguistic and Historical Research to the history of the Maldives.

The President also observed the work done to preserve the mosque. Also, the President launched an interactive CD titled “Cultural Footsteps”.
