2 arrested on drug charges in Addu

Addu Police Station has arrested two people for possession of large amounts of narcotic drugs on Saturday.
The two arrested two people are from Seenu Feydhoo and Seenu Maradhoo Feydhoo and has been identified as Ahmed Shareef, age 35, of Naadheege / S. Maradhoo Feydhoo and Ahmed Solih of Fasuvi / S. Feydhoo.
According to information received from reliable sources, the two were taken in from a dhoni in Mardhoo Feydhoo harbor.
Briefing the media, In Charge of the Southern Region, Sub Inspector Abdulla Nawaz said more than 75 packets containing brown colored substances believed to be drugs were discovered. He said, the two had thrown away the packets as the police approached. Sub Inspector further revealed that the two were arrested following tip off from the public. He thanked the public for the cooperation and support rendered to police in their crime prevention programs.
Increasing number of crimes related to drug abuse is a major national concern. Crimes such as theft, violence, gang violence has risen in recent days.
