VP Waheed meets senior officials of British Conservative Party

Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed , who currently in London on an official visit , has met with Vice Chairperson of British Conservative Party Richard Spring, and the Shadow Foreign Secretary Keith Simpson.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Waheed thanked the Conservative Party for the assistance rendered to the government of the Maldives. He briefed them on the development projects undertaken by the government. He also informed on the status of the ongoing decentralization process.

During the meeting, Richard Spring and Keith Simpson noted and praised the peaceful transition of administration in the Maldives. Further, they assured that the Conservative Party would assist the government in all its endeavors for the development and progress of the people of the Maldives.
Vice president Waheed arrived in London on Monday afternoon. On his arrival, he was greeted by the Acting High Commissioner of Maldivian High Commission in UK, Ahmed Sareer and senior officials of the High Commission.

The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the bilateral ties between the Maldives and the UK and also to seek technical expertise and European investments for the various developmental projects undertaken by the government.

During his visit Waheed will attend a seminar with British investors, businessmen and senior government officials, where he will inform the participants on the investment opportunities available in the Maldives. He will also meet with Robinson Gwynn; Special Envoy on Climate Change for Vulnerable Countries. Vice President Waheed is also scheduled to meet with the President and senior officials of English PEN as well as the Secretary-General of Amnesty International.

After concluding his visit to the UK, the Vice President is expected to visit Geneva. His visit to Geneva is at the invitation of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
