No act of vengeance: present govt.’s main achievement – President

President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the biggest achievement of his government during the hundred days of administration was that no act of vengeance had been taken against any member of the previous government. President Nasheed made the statement while speaking at the press conference held on Sunday afternoon at the President’s Office.
Stressing that democracy was an important and essential process; the President said that justice could only be provided through democracy.
President Nasheed also said that he can clearly see the envisioned ‘other Maldives’ and reiterated that his administration would fulfill its electoral pledges.
Focussing on his recent visit to Italy, the President said Italian investors are very much interested in investing in the Maldives.
Referring to the MoU signed between the government and the University of Milano-Bicocca to set up an outpost of the University in Magoodhoo, the President said a part of undergraduate and postgraduate courses would be taught in the outpost for students enrolled at the University.
At the press conference, the President took questions from the media. Details on the achievements of the President’s visit to Italy were given by Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Rasheed and State Minister for Economic Development, Mohamed Adil Saleem.
