Majlis refers 2 bills to Committee

People’s Majlis on Tuesday passed to accept 2 bills and to refer them to Majlis standing committee on Social Affairs.
The 2 bills which the Majlis passed to accept are bill on Maldives Red Crescent Society (MRCS) and bill proposed by Meemu atoll member Aneesa Ahmed seeking to amend the Maldives Family Act. The bill on Maldives Red Crescent Society was accepted to the Majlis majority with 31 members voting in favor while the bill on amending Maldives Family Act was accepted with 26 members voting in favor.
The two bills was passed by the Majlis to be referred to Majlis standing Committee on Social Affairs as proposed by Laamu atoll member Reeko Moosa Manik and supported by Ha member Jaufar Esa Adam. The bill on MRCS was referred to Social Affairs Committee with 28 members out of 32 in attendance voting in favor while bill on amending Maldives family Act was referred to Social Affairs Committee with 29 members voting in favor. One member abstained from voting.
Members also expressed endorsing the bill on MRCS without referring it to a Majlis committee. They expressed that the bill does not have any major issues and as such needs to be passed at the earliest in order to establish the Maldives Red Crescent Society without further delay.
