President Mohamed Nasheed has appealed the People’s Majlis to fast track the work on the bill on Maldivian Red Crescent Society (MRCS). President made the appeal in a letter sent to the Speaker of the People’s Majlis Mohamed Shihab on Sunday.
In his letter, President Nasheed said that as the Maldivian Red Crescent Society would be the only national organization to represent the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the government wants to establish the Maldivian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) as a legal entity in accordance with the 1949 Geneva Conventions, Additional Protocols to the Conventions and the Regulation on the Use of the Emblem of Red Cross or Red Crescent by National Societies.
