No Political Party is individual property: Gasim
Article Tools
Jumhoory Party Leader Gasim Ibrahim has said that no political party in the country is a property of any individual, and that Jumhoory Party especially is not a property of his.
Gasim Ibrahim said as such when asked by Miadhu News, his view on what member of Parliament for Fuahmulah Atoll Mohamed Ibrahim said when resigning from Jumhoory Party last Monday. Mohamed Ibrahim has said that all political parties in the country are properties of individuals, and that he therefore did not wish to join anyone’s party.
"I oppose Modi’s comments. I believe that no political party is property of any individual. DRP will not be Maumoon’s property. MDP also cannot be Nasheed’s property. As such, Jumhory Party also cannot be my property. The thing is that people refer to parties as parties’ of the people leading the parties with the support of the members. I can tell for sure that Jumhoory Party is running as per the heartbeat of the members" said Gasim Ibrahim who ran as Presidential Candidate from Jumhoory Party.
Gasim Ibrahim said that there was no dispute between Modi and Jumhoory Party and that he believes Modi left the party on his own decision. He also added that it was a huge loss to Jumhoory Party to loose an influential politician of Modi’s caliber. Gasim – who is well respected by the people of the country for his philanthropic and political work, went on to add that the party respects Modi’s decision and that that party will continue to work along with the spirit of the party members.
