Member of Parliament for Fuahmulah Atoll Ibrahim Mohamed Didi (Modi) has confirmed to Miadhu News that he has left Jumhoory Party (JP). Modi said that he has sent a letter of resignation to Jumhoory Party on Monday morning.
However, Mohamed Ibrahim Didi was quick to dismiss talk that he is set to soon join former party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). He said that he is not a member of any political at the moment. He also said that he does not have any view to join any party at the moment. He said that he does not believe he has to be a member of a political party to serve the people, before adding that all political parties in the country at the time are "parties’ of specific people".
"It is completely untrue that I have joined MDP. I will not join a political party of any person. I am saying so because all political parties in the country at the time are specific people’s parties. MDP is Mohamed Nasheed’s Party, DRP is Maumoon’s Party, then there are Gasim and Yamin’s Parties. And Hassan Saeedh’s Party too. I want a party of the people or the members" said Modi.
He said that he will contest the upcoming Elections as an independent candidate and also said that he did not leave Jumhoory Party due to any dispute.
"Now I plan to stay away from joining parties. Therefore, I will be able to work with the people’s wishes without any pressure" said Modi.
