World leaders felicitates President Gayoom

The President of Singapore, S R Nathan has sent a message of congratulations to President Gayoom on the historic presidential election held in the Maldives, which he said “would not have been possible without President Gayoom’s personal vision and commitment to the reform Agenda”, according to a statement issued from President’s office.
In the message President Nathan expressed that under President Gayoom’s leadership, Maldives had made rapid economic progress and that his legacy would be remembered by all Maldivians and international community.
The Chairperson of Indian National Congress Party, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi also sent a message to President Gayoom congratulating him on the peaceful conduct of the first ever multi-party elections in the Maldives. In the message, Sonia Gandhi expressed best wishes to President Gayoom as he leaves Office. She also said that “under President Gayoom’s visionary and strong stewardship of almost three decades, the country had progressed steadily towards a modern form of liberal democracy and witnessed overall economic and social development”.
In another message the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives, Ye Dabo, also congratulated President Gayoom. In the message, the Ambassador said that during the past 30 years, China and the Maldives had been enjoying excellent friendship and cooperation. He also expressed his assurance that President Gayoom would “continue to make contributions to promote the bilateral ties in the days to come”.
