Thaa member Afeef elected to Judicial Services Commission

The People’s Majlis at its 14 th sitting of the third session held yesterday morning elected Thaa atoll member Hassan Afeef as the member to the Judicial Service Commission in accordance with the Sections 281 (h)(4) of the Constitution.
When the floor was opened for submission of names, 2 proposals were moved and seconded. Name of Thaa member Hassan Afeef was proposed by Gdh member Abdulla Jabir and supported by Alif Alif member Abdul Muhusin. The second proposal was proposed by Noonu atoll member Ali Mohamed and supported by Mulaku atoll member Aneesa Ahmed. They proposed to appoint Lh atoll member Ahmed Mohamed to Judicial Services Commission.
As the second proposal was first proposal to be seconded, it was put to vote first. When put to vote, 12 members voted in favor while 17 members voted against. When the proposal to appoint Thaa member Hassan Afeef to Judicial Services was put to vote, 26 members voted in favor while 17 members voted against. Hence Thaa members Afeef was elected to Judicial Services Commission.
Yesterday’s sitting, attended by 38 Members was chaired by the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Mohamed Shihab.
The People’s Majlis will meet again on Wednesday, 19th November 2008.
