People’s Majlis session today

People’s Majlis will today consider a bill which proposes to afford former presidents same security, protections and benefits as serving presidents.
The bill was submitted to the Majlis by Meemu atoll MP and leader of DRP Parliamentary Group Aneesa Ahmed.
According to the bill, if the president had completed their term or terms without being convicted of criminal offenses then he should be awarded the protection of the State. The bill also seeks to give former presidents the same remunerations as the serving president. Currently a serving President receives Rf.75, 000 as basic salary.
Also on the agenda is consideration of bill to amend Law no 4/2000 Family Law, bill which proposes to amend Law no 5/2007, Civil Service law as well as bill proposing to amend Judicial Services Commission Law.
The first reading of the bill on Maldives Red Crescent Society and the submission of the report of the Majlis ad hoc committee selected to visit the tsunami affected islands.
