Maldives Resident High Commissioner to Pakistan present credentials

The first Maldives Resident High Commissioner to Pakistan, Adam Hassan has presented his Credentials to Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Friday morning, in a ceremony held at the Presentation Hall of Aiwan-e-Sadr, foreign ministry reports.

Following the presentation of Credentials, the High Commissioner highlighted the events surpassing the first multi-party Presidential election, as well as the new democratic changes unfolding in the country. High Commissioner Hassan also affirmed his commitment, on behalf of the Government of the Maldives to further strengthen existing bilateral relations between the Maldives and Pakistan during his tenure at Office.

Responding to the remarks of the High Commissioner, President Zardari expressed his appreciation for the Maldivian Government on the accreditation of the first resident Maldivian High Commission in Islamabad and expressed confidence that with the establishment of the first resident Mission, relations of cordiality would further consolidate in the future, foreign ministry said.

According to foreign ministry, President Zardari also praised the remarkable progress the Maldives had achieved in the areas of socio-economic development, highlighting the efforts of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom as President of the Maldives in sustaining such impressive levels of growth in the country, as well as his important role in the SAARC. In his concluding remarks, President Zardari congratulated the President-elect, Mohamed Nasheed for his victory in the historic democratic election held recently in the Maldives.

The Foreign Secretary, Salaman Basheer, Acting Chief of Protocol, the Military Secretary to the President attended the audience.
