Bangladesh leader commend Gayoom

The President of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed and the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh, Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, have commended President Gayoom for his display of an exemplary democracy, rare in South Asia and even in the history of the world. The two leaders said this while speaking with President Gayoom over the telephone today, following the presidential election which went very smoothly throughout the country.

Dr. Iajuddin noted the work done by President Gayoom to bring a modern liberal democracy to Maldives. He also said that President Gayoom was one of the founders of SAARC, and that he appreciated all the work done by President Gayoom for the development and progress of SAARC, since its inception in 1985.

Further, Dr. Iajuddin invited President Gayoom and his family to visit Bangladesh at a time convenient for President Gayoom.

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed said that President Gayoom has the credit for bringing a modern liberal democracy to the Maldives and said that he was happy that the presidential election went so smoothly.

Noting that the relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh have strengthened during President Gayoom’s presidency, Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed thanked President Gayoom for his efforts to strengthen this relationship between the two countries.
