Hassan’s govt to facilitate dignified life to single mothers

Independent candidate former attorney general Dr. Hassan Saeed has stated that a government formed under his leadership necessary arrangements will be in place to afford working single mothers to lead a dignified life and to take of their children. He said a 100 million dollar loan scheme will be introduced to allow single mothers to conduct small to medium size business and 2 to 6 month maternity leave will be introduced. He also said mothers will not have to forgo educating their children or forego the children’s medical care due to lack of money. Dr. Hassan made the statements while briefing the women of Male’ on his presidential manifesto at a meeting held at Nala Hiya Hotel yesterday night.
Dr. Hassan said even though his manifesto does not make any promises to women in particular he said that his government will facilitate means for working mothers to care of their children, adequate divorce settlements afforded to women, better arrangements to obtain child support money and better polices to ensure the rights and protection of women.
Although Dr. Hassan talked mostly what his government has for Maldivian women he also talked about child care and education of children. According to Dr. Hassan his government will provide free medical care to every child from the moment of birth and that no less than 1800 students will be granted scholarships to pursue higher education from abroad as well as establish a pension scheme which will reflect prevalent costs of living.
He said he will introduce a 35 hour working weeks and establish mechanisms to obtain loans as per Islamic principles from any bank in the country. He further promised to provide vocational training to school drop outs to enable to join universities, afford school teachers with better wages and encourage more Maldivians to take up the profession.
Presidential candidate Hassan Saeed all these services can be afforded to the citizens if the government reduces its unnecessary expenditure. Hassan promised to solve the country’s worsening drug situation to spend at least Rf.16, 000 annually on every addict to rehabilitate them and make them useful citizens of the society.
Dr. Hassan’s running mate Dr. Ahmed Shaheed also addressed the participants. He talked about the importance of reducing government expenditure.
