Today’s Majlis sitting

People’s Majlis is expected to hold its 42 sitting of the second session this morning at the Majlis House. The sitting is expected to commence at 0900 hours.
The main agenda item of today’s sitting is the reporting stage of the second reading and the third reading of the Bill on Prosecutor General. Also scheduled is the asking of parliamentary questions by Thaa atoll MP Mohamed Mohamed Shareef to Minister of Defense and national Security Ismail Shafeeu. Next on the agenda is the first reading and the continuation of the debate stage of the second reading of the General Elections Bill. After which the first reading and the continuation of the debate stage of the second reading of the Anti Corruption Bill.
Majlis last met on the 27 th of this month. At the sitting Majlis considered the ad hoc committee’s report on the evaluation of the bids of 11 islands leased out in 2005 by the government for the development of tourist resorts. The report highlighted several inconsistencies in the procedures used by concerned government agency in the evaluation of the bids. Majlis also continued the second reading on the bill on establishing free economic zones; however, during the debate stage the bill was withdrawn as government decided to introduce more amendments to the bill. Further the bill on Land Transport was send back to the committee on Economic Affairs due to several amendments being proposed by members.
