Commander in Chief meets National Security Council

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces yesterday met with the National Security Council.

The National Security Council is a council established to provide advice on matters relating to national security. Article 13(a) of the Armed Forces Act, calls for a National Security Council to provide advice and consultation to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on all matters of national security. Article 13 (a) stipulates that the NSC is to be chaired by the commander in chief of armed forces.

As stated in Article 13(b) of the Armed Forces Act, the meeting was attended, by the Commander-in-Chief, President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom; Minister of Defense, Ismail Shafeeu; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid; Minister of Home Affairs, Abdulla Kamaaludheen; Minister of Atoll Development, Ahmed Thasmeen Ali; Attorney General, Aishath Azima Shakoor and; Chief of Defense Force, Major General Mohamed Zahir. The Minister of Legal Reform, Information and Arts, Mohamed Nasheed and Commissioner of Police, Adam Zahir also participated in the meeting.

Article 13(c) of the Armed Forces Act authorizes the Commander-in Chief the discretion to appoint other members important for the matter to be discussed at the Council.
