World Health Day – A day to walk to work

Monday, April 7th, 2008

World Health Day, on 7 April, marks the founding of the World Health Organization and is an opportunity to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year. In 2008, World Health Day focuses on the need to protect health from the adverse effects of climate change.

Ministry of Health as part of the events to be held to mark the day has declared today as day to walk to work. As a day to keep your bicycles, motor cycles and cars walk to your offices. Ministry has called on able bodied to participate in the event held as part of the government efforts to minimize changes to climate change due to emissions.

Ministry of Health calls on to refrain from any activity that may have negative impacts on climate. Ministry noted that effects of climate, human health and human activities are all interrelated and called on all concerned to refrain from any activity that may have negative impacts on climate.

The theme “protecting health from climate change” puts health at the centre of the global dialogue about climate change. WHO selected this theme in recognition that climate change is posing a growing threat to global public health security.
