President meets people of 3 islands

President Maumoon Abdul gayoom yesterday met with the residents of South Maalhosmadulu Atoll Maalhos, Thulhaadhoo and Fulhadhoo. He first visited Maalhos. On arrival, the President was warmly welcomed by the Atoll Chief Mr. Mohamed Mahir, the senior officials of the Island Office and Committees. A large number of the residents of the Island were also present to greet the President.
Addressing the people of Maalhos, the President stressed upon the bonds of fraternity and brotherhood that should exist among Muslims. The President stated that unless we maintain this bond, our goals would not be achieved.
Senior Island Chief Mr. Aboobakuru Kaleygefaanu noted the rapid developments experienced by the country under the President’s leadership.
The President then visited Thulhaadhoo. He was accorded a very warm welcome by the people of the Island.
The President met with the residents of Thulhaadhoo in Thulhaadhoo School. Upon his arrival at Thulhaadhoo School, Pre-school children presented a welcome song. After that the Assistant Principal of the School Mr. Arun Kumar presented the President with a copy of the English magazine issued by the school.
Addressing the people of Thulhaadhoo the President spoke of the environmental problems faced by the Island. The President outlined his efforts to ensure that the international community was aware of the environmental problems faced by the Maldives. He further stated that this issue is now accepted by the international community.
Senior Island Chief Mr. Usman Ali thanked the President and congratulated him for his reform agenda.
During his visit to Thulhaadhoo, the President inspected the areas affected by the recent tidal surges.
The President’s last stop was Fulhadhoo. While addressing the community the President said that Fulhadhoo was well-known for fishing. He said that fishing was one of the most important pillars of the country’s economy and that fishermen should work hard to develop the sector.
The Island Chief of Fulhadhoo, Mr. Ali Azhar highlighted the progress the Maldives has witnessed under the President’s tenure and thanked him.
The President returned to Male’ yesterday evening after concluding his visit to Faadhippolhu Naifaru and South Maalhosmadulu Atoll.
