5 islands oppose airport to be build in Villingili

5 islands of Gaafu Alif atoll have rejected to construct the airport at Gaafu Alif Villingili and have opined to construct the airport at Gaafu Alif.. Dhigurah instead. The islands which rejected to build airport in Villingili were Maamendhoo, Nilandhoo, Dhaandhoo, Dhevvadhoo and Gemanafushi.

Maamendoo Island Chief Ahmed maniku said that their people want to build the airport at Dhigurah.

Nilandhoo Island chief Imaadh Moahemed said that their people also want the same thing. He said the main reason for this is that in order to protect themselves from the disturbances that might face from the islanders of Villingilu and to be able to spend less in their transport.

Dhaandoo Island chief Mohamed Ageel said though the Island chief of villigili claimed that the Gaafu Alif islands want to construct the airport at villigili this is not what the people of Dhaandhoo want. And he was informed that the other islands also want to construct the airport at Dhigurah.

Dhevvadhoo Island chief Mohamed Didi said that it was not fair to change the task of constructing the airport to another island after it had been decided to construct the airport at Dhigurah.
